Membership in the APPD

Membership in the Association of Pediatric Program Directors is through pediatric residency programs accredited by the Accreditation Council for Graduate Medical Education (ACGME) and those hospitals in Canada approved by the Royal College of Physicians and Surgeons to provide residency training programs in Pediatrics.

Individuals are added each year to their program's membership by the Pediatric Residency Director. If you would like to become a member of the APPD, please contact the Residency Program Director or a Pediatric Residency Program Coordinator at your institution and inquire whether you could be included in the institutional membership.

Active participation in the APPD is one of the best investments you can make with your limited time. APPD is a network of colleagues, all of whom are facing daily the same issues you are. One of the unique advantages of APPD is the opportunity to do with others what you cannot do by yourself as a program director, department chair, associate director, or coordinator. The camaraderie and esprit de corps among pediatric program directors, department chairs, associate directors, and coordinators is a tremendous bonding influence and a source of welcomed support as the issues of the day are faced.

IMPORTANT NEW CHANGES AND INFORMATION REGARDING 2026-2027 MEMBERSHIP

Beginning July 1, 2026, APPD will transition from an individual-based fee structure to a program-size based fee structure. Under this new model, rather than determining dues by the number of participating faculty, each program’s dues will be determined by program size and will include unlimited membership for all key educational faculty and personnel. This change is designed to reflect the expansion of APPD’s learner and program services in recent years, more accurately address the evolving needs of our community, promote proportionate impact of dues across programs of different sizes, and ensure broad inclusion of diverse member types, including residency and fellowship leaders at each institution. A more streamlined and efficient membership structure will enable APPD to enhance and expand services for all members and learners.

Although the membership dues structure is based on residency program size for ease of application, membership is inclusive of residency and fellowship leaders. Programs are strongly encouraged to include all key educational faculty/personnel engaged in their programs—including residency and fellowship program directors, associate program directors, chief residents, coordinators/managers/education specialists, vice chairs of education, core faculty, etc.—under their program membership. All listed members will benefit from the many APPD Membership Benefits, including learner access to all curriculum in APPD LESSON and program access to the new APPD CBME Data HUB.

Please note that the fee structure above does not include APPD regional dues.
