The cohort is arranged into small groups of 3-4 people who will work together over the year with a LEAPES Council member. Participants will identify an area of interest for a small project or presentation. The group will be mentored through the project via virtual meetings. The goal of the work product is to adapt a presentation or scholarly project report for a large audience presentation (often for APPD members, APPD Spring Meeting attendees, or other larger audiences). This project can be a small research project, workshop, survey, curricula, or other creative scholarly works.
At the very minimum, we anticipate that participants will spend 3-4 hours per month virtually, in addition to attending the three in-person sessions and the adjoining main Fall and Spring APPD meetings. You may need to spend additional time on your own depending upon the type of project your group decides to work on. The course will be completed over 9 months.
The LEAPES program provides outstanding training for administrators aspiring to develop the knowledge and skills needed to become leaders in medical education. LEAPES will help you innovate, create, continuously improve, expand your knowledge, prepare you for greater leadership responsibilities, and increase potential career advancement by improving your visibility, knowledge and network both locally and nationally.
This program will assist those interested in pursuing a long, robust career in medical education through one or more career pathways: continuous improvement, scholarship, leadership, and/or academic management. The exact path will depend on you and your interests and passions.
The LEAPES Program and TAGME certification are two entirely different types of professional development. LEAPES is an immersive, robust professional development and leadership course, while TAGME certification is achieved through study preparation and passing a GME assessment. As such, the end goals for each program differ greatly and should be considered in your decision.
