Newly Revised 12 General Pediatrics Entrustable Professional Activities (EPAs) Now Available
June 30, 2025
Dear APPD Community,
We’re thrilled to share that the newly revised 12 General Pediatrics Entrustable Professional Activities (EPAs) are now available on the ABP website: Gen Peds EPAs. These EPAs represent a significant step forward in our collective journey toward advancing competency-based medical education (CBME). Starting in 2028, program leaders will begin reporting on these essential activities to the ABP. A huge round of applause goes to APPD members Drs. Laura Chiel, Joanna Lewis, Meghan O’Connor, Pat Poitevien, and Ariel Winn for their incredible work and leadership in shaping these revisions.
As we move forward together in implementing and embracing both the curricular and assessment components of CBME, here are several resources and opportunities available to support you and your program:
–Become a CBME Champion today! Gain early access to vital communications, tools, and resources from the ABP by signing up as a CBME Champion today.
–The APPD CBME Data Hub will be available to all APPD-member residency programs and enable Clinical Competency Committees to enter EPA determinations and receive predicted milestone levels. It’s designed to help programs focus assessment on the 12 General Pediatrics EPAs while maintaining alignment with the 22 ACGME milestones.
–Join a Virtual Café: The process for EPA revision and a few general updates, along with an update on the CBME Data Hub from Dr. Dan Schumacher, were recently discussed in the most recent CBME Champion/APPD Assessment Learning Community combined meeting, and the recording of that meeting can be found here: June Meeting (note that the password is cbmechamp). Stay tuned-another CBME-focused APPD Virtual Café is coming later this summer!
-Join the APPD Assessment Learning Community: Connect with fellow educators and leaders who are driving innovation in assessment and CBME. This is a fantastic space to find support, share strategies, and stay informed.
Finally, a heartfelt thank you to Dr. David Turner, ABP Vice President of Competency-Based Medical Education, for his invaluable partnership and dedication to this work.
With gratitude,
Megan
