Instructions
The APPD is pleased to announce a call for one new faculty member to help direct APPD LEAD. New faculty members will join the APPD LEAD Council which oversees LEAD, a nationally recognized program in which pediatric GME directors engage and learn from seasoned pediatric educators. Council members are responsible for developing, implementing and evaluating the APPD LEAD program, as well as choosing participants.

All materials must be submitted by November 4, 2024.
Criteria for Selection of APPD LEAD Council Members
A. Experience
- At least five years of leadership experience in graduate medical education (in one or more roles as Program Director, Associate/Assistant Program Director, Fellowship Director, and/or Associate/Assistant Fellowship Director)
- National recognition in medical education
B. General Expertise
- Verbal communication skills
- Written communication skills
- Presentation skills (i.e., seminars, workshops)
- Collaboration
- Group facilitation skills
- Mentoring
C. Specific Expertise welcome but not required, for example:
- Specific expertise is welcome but not required (for example, diversity, equity, inclusion and belonging, business of medicine, educational scholarship, wellness, etc.)
D. Responsibilities
- Three meetings per year, including Council participation and active LEAD teaching (spring summer and fall meetings), including preparation days prior to each meeting. This is approximately 10 days in addition to the Fall and Spring APPD

- Attend an orientation session held 3/23/2025 (1/2 day) prior to the APPD LEAD session at the Spring Meeting in Atlanta. Attend APPD LEAD on 3/24/25-3/25/25 which includes a debrief session the afternoon of March 25,
- APPD LEAD summer dates for 2025 are TBD – likely July 2025; fall and spring dates will be based on the APPD Fall and Spring Meeting
- Participate in Monthly LEAD Council Zoom conference calls
- Participate in monthly mentor-mentee calls beginning prior to Session1 (~July 2025)
- Develop/update presentations in collaboration with other LEAD Council Members as assigned
- Contribute to the scholarship projects and products of the LEAD Council
- Present/facilitate workshops at each LEAD session
- Meet all deadlines as assigned
- Council members serve three-year terms and terms may be renewed
E. Application Materials
- Letter of interest (1-2 pages) specifically addressing the following: graduate medical education experience; evidence of broad knowledge of program director’s role, responsibilities and challenges; your contributions to DEI; any areas of expertise or special interest.
- Two (2) letters of recommendation from superiors or colleagues who have current and direct knowledge of your expertise in graduate medical education, including your presentation, mentorship, flexibility and collaboration

- LEAD Council reviews applications
- LEAD Council recommends names of new Council members to the APPD Board of
- APPD Board of Directors determines final approval of new LEAD Council members
- LEAD Chair notifies applicants by early January 2025
