Children’s Healthcare of Atlanta and Emory University School of Medicine are seeking a visionary and collaborative physician leader with strong clinical and academic experience to serve in a dual role as Chief Teaching Officer at Children’s Healthcare of Atlanta and Vice Chair of Education, Department of Pediatrics at Emory.
The Chief Teaching Officer/Vice Chair of Education will help develop and implement a vision to shape the future of pediatric medical education and nurture the culture of teaching and learning across Children’s and Emory. This leader will oversee educational programs across the spectrum of medical education including UME, GME, and CME. This leader will be responsible for partnering with other residency training programs and medical school programs, including Morehouse School of Medicine, Mercer University, and University of Georgia School of Medicine for their education programs at Children’s.
The Chief Teaching Officer/Vice Chair of Pediatric Education will facilitate the integration of the latest teaching methodologies and evidence-based training to provide support and oversight for advancing curricula consistent with LCME and ACGME guidelines to ensure our training programs remain at the forefront of medical education. Additionally, the Chief Teaching Officer/Vice Chair of Education will collaborate with institutional and external stakeholders to ensure training initiatives advance best practices and deliver measurable improvements in trainee educational and outcomes.
Candidate Qualifications
The ideal candidate will have the following credentials and attributes:
• Doctor of Medicine (MD/DO) or equivalent medical degree from an accredited institution.
• Current board certification in Pediatrics or a Pediatric Subspecialty.
• Eligible for medical licensure in the state of Georgia.
• Meets eligibility requirements for credentialing as part of Children’s professional staff.
• An advanced degree in Medical Education, Business, Health Administration, Public Health, and/or PhD is preferred.
• Eligible for an appointment as an Associate Professor or Professor at the Emory University School of Medicine.
• Five or more years of experience in graduate medical education leadership, including oversight of ACGME accredited programs.
• Proven history of developing and implementing innovative educational programs for medical students, residents, and fellows.
• Demonstrated success in faculty development, mentorship, and fostering academic excellence.
• National recognition for contributions to medical education, with leadership roles in professional organizations or scholarly publications.
Children’s Graduate Medical Education Program
Over the past 25 years, Children’s Healthcare of Atlanta and Emory University have collectively trained more than 1,200 pediatric residents and fellows. As of the 2023–2024 academic year, Children’s Healthcare of Atlanta is proud to offer 31 residency programs and 51 fellowship programs.
Our esteemed faculty supervise a vibrant and diverse community of trainees who contribute valuable knowledge and clinical experience from over 80 programs accredited by the Accreditation Council for Graduate Medical Education, the Commission on Dental Accreditation. and the Pediatric Orthopedic Society of North America, as well as post accreditation training programs.
