Boston University/Boston Medical Center is actively recruiting for our post-residency preventive medicine fellowship program, featuring two specialized tracks: Community Prevention and Maternal Health Equity Track (2-year)https://www.bumc.bu.edu/medfellowship/community-prevention-and-maternal-health-equity-track/Perfect for trainees passionate about maternal health, public health/community partnerships, and dismantling structural systems of oppression in healthcare. Fellows will lead impactful perinatal health projects using diverse methodologies (research, QI, advocacy, education) and employ community participatory approaches to address maternal health disparities in medically underserved communities. There is also an option to include clinical time on Labor and Delivery or the family medicine postpartum dyad service. Immigrant & Refugee Health Track (2-year)https://www.bumc.bu.edu/medfellowship/immigrant-and-refugee-health-preventive-medicine-track/Designed for those interested in addressing health disparities in immigrant and refugee populations through clinical service, leadership, advocacy, and community prevention. Fellows develop transferable skillsets and nuanced understanding of how immigration status, nativity, and immigrant identity intersect with social determinants including housing access, discrimination, violence, and economic opportunities. Training within Massachusetts FQHC and safety-net populations prepares graduates to lead population health programs, study health outcome impacts, and inform policy for person-centered equitable care delivery. Both tracks offer:
- Master of Science degree in Population Health Research from BU School of Public Health (ranked #6 in the US)
- Hands-on practicum opportunities with real-world public health experience (Boston Public Health Commission, BMC Health Equity Accelerator)
- Interdisciplinary training in a supportive environment with health equity fellows across the institution
- Leadership and teaching skills development for interprofessional teams
- Community participatory approaches to address health disparities
- Innovative methods to address social determinants of health
Eligibility: Open to graduates who have completed a ACGME residency in Family Medicine, General Internal Medicine, Pediatrics, or Med-Peds and are board-eligible or board-certified. Those who already have a master’s degree are eligible – trainees will take supplementary courses to specifically support and advance fellowship projects rather than repeating the full master’s degree curriculum.
