As a resident at UNM, you will experience a rigorous training program in a supportive environment. Our residents pursue all possible career paths (community/academic/general pediatrics/fellowship) after developing a robust pediatric foundation. We have an individualized track system to allow you flexibility in your training years in preparation for your own career goals. The tracks are Ambulatory, Hospitalist, Fellowship, and Global and Rural Health. We emphasize resident education with a robust academic half-day curriculum as well as rotation-specific didactics, in addition to developing physician educators. Our residents are also active in community advocacy and scholarly activities.
Trainees in our program have opportunities to engage with the state’s legislature and participate in rural and community rotations. Practicing in New Mexico provides the unique resources of Free Universal Child Care and a generous loan repayment program for Health Professionals that can be applied for during training. For physicians, loan forgiveness amounts to a minimum of $75,000 per year for up to a 4-year commitment.
Applicants must be in good standing in an ACGME accredited program and have the support of their current Program Director to apply for this position. Applicants who have completed a year of Pediatrics Residency training will be preferred.
