We have an unexpected opening for a PGY1 position in the University of Illinois Chicago Pediatrics Residency Program beginning July 1, 2026.  Our ACGME-accredited, mission-driven program is based within the University of Illinois Chicago College of Medicine, with our primary clinical training site at UI Health. As highlighted in the recent Community Assessment of Needs report, “UI Health provides comprehensive care, education, and research to the people of Illinois and is dedicated to the pursuit of health equity.” The communities we serve are supported through initiatives focused on addressing social determinants of health and structural racism, improving access to care and community resources, strengthening healthcare systems, and advancing prevention of chronic disease. Our program includes:

  • 12 categorical pediatric residents per class
  • 3 chief residents
  • 16 combined medicine-pediatrics residents
  • An X+Y schedule with a 3+1 format

We currently offer fellowships in:

  • Pediatric Hematology/Oncology

Additional strengths of our program include robust curricula in simulation, quality improvement, board preparation, research, and career development throughout all three years of residency training. As part of a large academic medical center, our residents also work closely with medical students as mentors and clinical educators.
