Our Lady of the Lake Pediatric Residency Program in Baton Rouge, Louisiana will be accepting applications for a Chief Resident to serve as one of two Chief Residents during the 2027-2028 academic year. OLOL Children’s Health opened its own free-standing children’s hospital in 2019 that employees our 36-resident program. Along with residency education, OLOL partners with LSU School of Medicine and Tulane School of Medicine to provide training for medical students (including a branch campus). The Chief Resident will be essential to continue collaboration with these programs along with fostering the education of our current residents.

Requirements for application include:
- Must be a current PGY-3 pediatric resident in good standing with an ACGME-accredited training program.
- Must graduate by or before June 2027 from an ACGME-accredited residency training program and be prepared to start no later than July 1, 2027. If accepted for the position, and if possible, we will coordinate with your current program to allow you to complete a “chief elective” rotation at the conclusion of the 2026-2027 academic year.
- Must be American Board of Pediatrics eligible in 2027.
Responsibilities of the position include:
- Clinical
- Currently, clinical time is split between Hospital Pediatric Service (Inpatient) and our resident continuity clinic (Outpatient). For Inpatient, time is an approximately 30% FTE appointment (6 weeks and 12-15 weekends) of serving as attending on the Inpatient Service. The resident continuity clinic will be ½ day per week. Adjustments to clinical responsibilities may be considered if desired.
- Teaching/Curriculum Development
- Organization of the academic calendar
- Oversight of noon conferences
- Didactic teaching as needed
- Community Medicine rotation liaison
- Teach LSU and Tulane medical students rotating at OLOL (as gratis faculty)
- Administration
- Resident block schedule creation including holiday and back-up schedules
- Development of schedule for clinic/longitudinal rotations (e.g., advocacy, developmental pediatrics, scholarly, and walk-in clinic)
- Development of inpatient rotation schedules, including coordination of outside rotators
- Organize and coordinate absence requests
- Attend residency executive committee meetings, as well as hospital-wide committee meetings as needed
- Provide reliable communication to both residents and faculty on resident events
- Leadership
- Participation in applicant interviews and intern selection/rank list
- Development of agenda and coordination of committee meetings
- Mentorship
- Lead collaborative class-wide and residency-wide discussions about program strengths, weaknesses/threats and opportunities for improvement
- Collaborative mentorship and training of rising chiefs
- Providing moral support for trainees
- Coordination of mental health and resident wellness initiatives
Benefits of the position include:
- Salary- 70% commensurate with PGY-4 and 30% paid at a Junior Faculty clinical rate for serving as an attending on the inpatient service and in continuity clinic

- Protected time to prepare for ABP board exam (half-day per week and one week off prior to boards exam)
