The NYMC / Metropolitan Pediatric Residency Program is accepting applications a PGY-1 categorical pediatric residency position beginning July 1, 2026.

Our program is a fully ACGME-accredited program with a distinguished 50-year history of teaching, discovery, and community advocacy. Affiliated with New York Medical College since 1875 and situated within NYC Health + Hospitals/Metropolitan—the largest municipal healthcare system in the United States—our program offers a diverse, urban clinical environment. We are dedicated to educating physicians to become leaders in the field of pediatrics as healers, teachers, researchers, and advocates.

Our program strictly observes both New York State Code 405 regulations and Resident Review Committee (RRC) regulations regarding resident work hours and supervision.

Position Overview

  • Job Title: Pediatric Resident (PGY-1)

Qualifications & Requirements consistent with eligibility to train at the PGY-1 level in accordance with ACGME and institutional requirements.

Examination & Certification

  • Medical Degree: MD, DO, or international equivalent from an accredited medical school.
  • ECFMG Certification: Must be ECFMG-certified at the time of application (for international medical graduates).
  • USMLE Examinations: * Demonstrated strong performance (good marks) on USMLE Step 1 and Step 2 (CK).
    • Preference will be given to candidates who have also successfully completed and passed USMLE Step 3.

Work Authorization & Compliance

  • U.S. Work Authorization: Must be authorized to work in the United States without restrictions. This position does not offer or require sponsorship for a work or training visa (e.g., J-1 or H-1B).
  • Availability: Must be available to begin employment and orientation as early as July 1, 2026.
  • Core Competencies: * Demonstrated commitment to self-directed, lifelong learning.
    • Strong professional integrity, sound medical judgment, and critical thinking skills.
    • A passion for pediatric advocacy and addressing health disparities within underserved urban communities.
