Program Overview

The Pediatric Endocrinology Fellowship at Massachusetts General Hospital has been ACGME-accredited since November 1985 and is in good standing. Over 30 fellows have successfully completed the program, which offers comprehensive clinical and research training in pediatric endocrinology.

Duration: 3 years
Training Site: Massachusetts General Hospital, Boston, MA

Prerequisite Training & Selection Criteria

Applicants must meet the following requirements:

  • M.D. or equivalent (e.g., MBBS)
  • Completion of an ACGME-accredited residency in Pediatrics (or exception granted by GME)
  • Successful completion of USMLE Steps 1, 2 CK, 2 CS, and, if eligible, Step 3
  • Completed ERAS application
  • ECFMG certification (if applicable)
  • Massachusetts medical license (limited or full) and hospital appointment
  • Visa eligibility (if applicable)
  • Commitment to pursue Board certification in Pediatric Endocrinology

Program Goals

Our fellowship prepares trainees to:

  • Deliver expert care in pediatric endocrinology across inpatient and outpatient settings
  • Pass the American Board of Pediatrics Certification Exam in Pediatric Endocrinology
  • Develop a strong foundation in physiology, pathophysiology, and research (basic, translational, genetic, clinical, and epidemiological)
  • Critically evaluate medical literature and communicate effectively through writing and presentations
  • Cultivate professionalism, ethics, and collaborative skills for patient care and teaching

Curriculum Highlights

  • Year 1: Intensive clinical training (inpatient service, outpatient clinics, core conferences)
  • Years 2 & 3: Dedicated research time with scholarly output; progressive clinical independence and teaching responsibilities
  • Didactics: Weekly clinical and didactic conferences, monthly journal club, weekly Endocrine Grand Rounds
  • Mentorship: Fellows receive guidance from clinical and research mentors; progression reviewed semi-annually by CCC and SOC
