The field of Pediatric Hematology-Oncology encompasses a broad array of disorders of children and adolescents with cancer and non-malignant disorders of the blood and blood-forming tissues. The intent of Pediatric Hematology-Oncology fellowship programs is to train pediatric physician scientists in the prevention, diagnosis and management of disease as to provide comprehensive, compassionate care for children and adolescents. Our training program is unique, combining the talents and resources of the three premier institutions in the Illinois Medical District. We hold to a common goal of providing future academic pediatricians with a foundation to become competent clinicians, researchers and teachers.
To achieve this, our training program holds to the following objectives:
Prerequisite Training/Selection Criteria Applicants for the Pediatric Hematology-Oncology fellowship must have satisfactorily completed residency training in pediatric in an ACGME approved program. Applicants who have graduated from a foreign medical school must have a valid, unexpired ECFMG certificate to enter a program in Graduate Medical Education. *For interested foreign applicants, the only visa we accept is J-1 visa. Applicants are selected on the basis of commitment to advancing pediatric endocrinology, a history of demonstrated skill in interpersonal communication during residency, medical knowledge as reflected in residency evaluations and test scores, and prior history of scholarship and advocacy. Malpractice insurance is provided by the University of Illinois system, and an excellent benefits package is available including vacations, sick time, CME, health and life insurance.
