Clinical Leaders and Academic Scholars (CLASS) Fellowship University of Illinois Chicago (UIC)
The University of Illinois Chicago (UIC) is recruiting outstanding graduates of ACGME-accredited residency programs in Pediatrics, Internal Medicine, and Medicine-Pediatrics for the Clinical Leaders and Academic Scholars (CLASS) Fellowship. We are currently recruiting fellows for positions beginning July 2027.
CLASS is designed for physicians seeking accelerated preparation for careers in academic medicine, healthcare leadership, and clinical research while maintaining meaningful clinical practice. Recent fellows have joined the program from the University of Chicago, Rush University, Advocate Lutheran General, UC San Diego, Massachusetts General Hospital, and UIC.
The fellowship offers three career-development tracks:
- Medical Education Track (1 year): Graduate Certificate in Health Professions Education for physicians pursuing careers as education leaders (e.g., program directors, clerkship directors, associate deans).
- Clinical Leadership Track (1 year): Graduate Certificate in Essentials in Healthcare Safety and Quality for physicians preparing for leadership roles in healthcare delivery and quality improvement (e.g., medical directors, chief medical officers).
- Research Track (2 years): MS in Clinical and Translational Science or MS in Biostatistics (Health Data Science concentration), together with a mentored research project under the guidance of a senior UIC faculty mentor, for physicians pursuing careers as clinician-investigators.
Across all tracks, fellows devote 0.25 FTE to clinical practice while completing their fellowship training. Fellows receive a PGY-6 salary regardless of entry PGY level, and tuition is fully covered for all required certificate and degree programs.
