The Pediatric Residency Program at the Upstate Golisano Children’s Hospital of SUNY Upstate Medical University in Syracuse, NY, is seeking applications for two Pediatric Chief Resident positions for the 2026-2027 academic year.
The Chief Resident will serve from July 1, 2026, through June 30, 2027, overseeing 45 pediatric residents in partnership with a Co-Pediatric Chief Resident.
This role offers an exceptional opportunity to strengthen your leadership, administrative, teaching, coaching, communication, and clinical skills.
Responsibilities & Benefits: As a Chief Resident, you will:
- Serve as a mentor, advocate, and role model for residents.
- Develop essential administrative skills, including schedule creation, adjustment, and monitoring, as well as coordinating educational activities.
- Host educational sessions for residents/medical students, aid in curriculum development.
- Represent resident interests on hospital and university committees.
- Participate in resident recruitment.
- Supervise residents in clinical settings to further build your clinical expertise.
- Engage in scholarly activities, including research projects and simulation-based initiatives.
This position provides a unique opportunity to pursue a career-focused curriculum. You will have the opportunity to design your schedule, which may include electives and clinical time in the PHM, PICU, ED, or Outpatient Clinics. Compensation includes a $ 79,535 salary, full benefits, and a $500 stipend. Employment is through Upstate Medical University, which can sponsor J-1 visas when needed.
