The Interprofessional Education (IPE) Learning Community seeks to bring innovation and collaboration in pediatric education via interprofessional (nursing, pharmacy, respiratory therapy) efforts to the work of the APPD. Our overarching goal is to strengthen the quality and cohesiveness of pediatric education by bringing together interprofessional education experts and leaders. It is our goal to focus on both the development and provision of education to interprofessional learners as well as the socio-emotional aspects of building high-performing interprofessional teams.
Key Goals and Priorities:
1. Promote Interprofessional Collaboration:
Build intentional partnerships with leaders in education from allied health professional organizations. We will develop shared educational initiatives that promote communication, mutual respect, and high-performance teamwork. We will prioritize mentorship, inclusivity, and shared leadership. We anticipate learning from experts that have prioritized this work already in the UME space.
2. Enhance Educational Excellence:
Be an advocate and voice for high-quality, evidence-informed educational strategies and priorities for interprofessional education.
3. Develop Shared Learning Experiences:
Create and disseminate interprofessional curricula, simulations, and case-based learning activities that align with pediatric competencies across disciplines and reflect real-world teamwork in pediatric settings.
4. Advance Scholarship and Dissemination:
Develop and support scholarly collaboration/networking in interprofessional education, including educational, quality improvement, and implementation science efforts. Share and report out on IPE scholarly projects within LC meetings bi-annually.
5. Align with APPD and National Priorities:
Ensure the LC’s work aligns with APPD strategic goals and national standards/goals of allied health professional organizations for interprofessional practice and education.
