PEd-THRIVE: Pediatric Educator & Trainee Health and Resilience Integrated and Valued in Education

The APPD Wellbeing Action Team is an interdisciplinary team devoted to working collectively to better understand and promote resilience and wellness in pediatric trainees, program coordinators, program directors/leaders, and pediatric faculty.
 
Mission: Promote wellness of pediatric trainees, faculty and GME leaders through research, education and effective training methods.

Goals: Promote wellness of pediatric trainees, faculty and GME leaders through the following core activities:

  1. Continue annual longitudinal assessments of wellbeing of pediatric trainees
  2. Provide annual program wellbeing reports to participating PDs and institutions
  3. Promote wellbeing of pediatric trainees, faculty and GME leaders through development and dissemination of wellbeing interventions and activities for pediatric trainees, faculty and GME leaders
  4. Enable research and scholarship regarding important factors that impact trainee, faculty and GME leader wellbeing

Action Team – Organization

Initial Action Team Leadership Chairs and Members and Sub-Committee Chairs and Members (for two-year terms) – 5-8 APPD members per Sub-Committee

  1. Initial APPD Wellbeing Action Team (PEd-THRIVE) Leadership

Mission: Set priorities & oversee all activities of PEd-THRIVE Sub-Committees; track outcomes and prepare regular reports on PEd-THRIVE activities and outcomes for APPD Board (~2 hrs/month)

  1. PEd-THRIVE Sub-Committees
    A. Measuring & Feedback (PRB-RSC Study Annual Survey & Program Report - Residents; Fellows)

Mission: develop and supervise annual wellness surveys of pediatric residents and fellows; explore wellness surveys of program leaders and teaching; develop and deliver program reports (~2 hrs/month)

         B. Empowering through Education (STREAM, additional didactics/workshops; focusing on trainees, program leaders, teaching faculty)

Mission: develop and implement STREAM training sessions; develop and implement additional didactics and workshops for trainees, program leaders and teaching faculty (~ 2hrs/month)

         C. Advancing Knowledge and Impact (Research/Scholarship)

Mission: review PEd - THRIVE research proposals and support scholarship and dissemination of THRIVE data and insights (~2 hrs/month)

         D. Fostering Belonging and Equity (Culture, equity)

Mission: promote evidence informed methods to foster belonging, inclusivity, and equity in pediatric GME and teaching faculty (~ 2 hrs/month)

         E. Connecting & Communicating

Mission: promote APPD member/teaching faculty engagement in PEd – THRIVE activities through website/ email communications, social media and APPD sessions (~ 2 hrs/month)
