The Pediatrics Residency Program at St. Joseph’s University Medical Center is seeking a full-time PGY4 Chief Resident for the 2025-2026 academic year. Located in Paterson, New Jersey, St. Joseph’s Children’s Hospital is one of the oldest children’s hospitals in New Jersey. It includes a 36-bed general pediatric service, a 12-bed pediatric ICU, a Mother-Baby Unit, a 30-bed Level III NICU, a 30-bed intermediate nursery, and a 20-bassinet full-term nursery. St. Joseph’s Children’s Hospital serves a wide socio-economic and ethnically diverse population from Paterson and surrounding communities. St. Joseph’s University Medical Center is the largest employer of Passaic County and one of the largest charity care hospitals in New Jersey. The hospital has a commitment to providing exceptional quality care with special concern for those who are poor, vulnerable, and underserved.

The pediatric residency program at St. Joseph’s consists of 36 residents and 2 full-time Chief Residents. The hospital serves as a clinical training site to 3 medical schools – Virtua-Rowan School of Osteopathic Medicine, St. George’s University, and University of New England College of Osteopathic Medicine.

The prospective PGY4 Chief Resident will join as the second full time Chief Resident. Responsibilities include serving in a supervised teaching attending role on the inpatient service for 4 weeks (outpatient clinic precepting is also an option), overseeing clinical and resident needs on the inpatient services and outpatient settings, mentoring 36 pediatric categorical residents, making the resident schedule for the 2025-2026 academic year, and developing the educational curriculum to create solid foundation of knowledge for our pediatric residents and to prepare for the American Board of Pediatrics certifying exam.

Located in Paterson, New Jersey, St. Joseph’s serves a predominantly underserved community with a large immigrant population. Successful candidates in our program have strong interests in teaching and advocacy. On behalf of our program leadership, the Chief Residents are provided close mentorship by the Program Director, Associate Program Directors, and Department Chair.

Prerequisites:

Completion of a 3-year ACGME-accredited pediatric residency program by June 2025
