The Division of Pediatric Nephrology at the UCLA Mattel Children’s Hospital has an opportunity opening to recruit an additional first year fellow to join our one other incoming pediatric nephrology fellow. We can also consider an incoming second-year fellow if someone is looking to transfer/ relocate to Los Angeles.  The fellow would ideally start July 2023 but the starting date is flexible.

U.S. News & Report ranks UCLA Health hospitals as one of the best hospitals in the nation for 31 consecutive years and is number 1 in Los Angeles and number 4 in the US.  We are a local referral center for both the acute and chronic management of a wide variety of pediatric nephrology patients.  UCLA is a national leader in organ transplantation and performs among the highest volume of kidney transplants in the nation.  Our division has an international reputation for excellence.  We have trained over 100 fellows, virtually all of whom have found positions and successful careers in academic or clinical pediatric nephrology settings throughout the United States and Canada.  Our division is staffed by 7 pediatric nephrologists. We perform approximately 15-20 kidney transplants per year and have 20-25 chronic dialysis patients. We have an active CRRT Program and often perform consultations in the ICU on ECMO and other critically ill patients. There is an active outpatient program which includes on-site and outreach clinics, with dedicated clinics for general nephrology, lupus/autoimmune disease, dialysis and kidney transplantation.

The division features a large and diverse didactic conference schedule including a weekly didactic conference, journal club, renal grand rounds (held with the adult nephrology division), glomerulonephritis conference, “flipped classroom” workshops, and pathology conferences. The division is very active in basic science and clinical research and participates in multiple national and international research collaborations.  We have tremendous amounts of resources to promote scholarly activity including a medical education fellowship and masters in clinical research program.  We have the flexibility to adapt the educational program to support a candidate with a primary interest in clinical medicine or research.

UCLA is located in the heart of sunny west Los Angeles and sits just 5 miles from the Pacific Ocean, at the base of the Santa Monica Mountains. Los Angeles is an active, dynamic and global city with easy access to beautiful beaches, mountains, hiking trails, world renowned museums, vineyards, and theme parks.  It is also a mecca for arts, sports and other cultural events that allows for an overall appealing lifestyle.
