This is for a fellowship spot for the 2023-2024 academic year in Pediatric Emergency Medicine in Buffalo, NY.

Our emergency department at OCH is the tertiary care referral center for pediatric subspecialty care, with an annual volume of more than 45,000 pediatric patients under the age of 21. We are the Level 1 Pediatric Trauma Center serving all 12 counties of Western New York. Our faculty supervises the child-friendly department 24 hours a day in our freestanding children’s hospital, providing pediatric-focused nursing, radiology services, child life and social work.

We aim to provide our fellows with the tools to ensure they are prepared for and will excel in every career path available within the field of pediatric emergency medicine. Through individualized learning plans, our fellows are exposed to excellent clinical experiences and teaching within a dynamic multimedia curriculum and primary/research mentorship programs.

Education

Our structured curriculum emphasizes the importance of evidence-based medicine and the core concepts of pediatric emergency medicine. We provide didactic and bedside teaching of pediatric emergency medicine to pediatric, family medicine and emergency medicine residents as well as EMS and medical students. Research

We require our fellows to pursue independent research during their fellowship training. This includes developing an hypothesis-driven project with a research mentor. Fellows are strongly encouraged to present the results of their research at national academic meetings and submit for publication. We have a vibrant team to facilitate research at our institution, including research assistants, a statistician, methodology mentors and PEM faculty.
