The University of Iowa Stead Family Department of Pediatrics is recruiting faculty candidates in all Pediatric subspecialties.

The mission is to support research into the causes and cures of childhood illness and the improvement of child health. These appointments may be on the tenure track. Assistant Professor Appointment at the rank of Associate of Pediatrics (non-tenure track) may also be considered. Positions will support promising investigators in basic, translational, and clinical research in pediatrics. The Department may provide a generous start-up package, protected time, as well as mentorship for early-career investigators.

The Department is also recruiting investigators for its Program in Pediatric Research. Please refer to requisition number 73907.

Requirements:

  • MD or MD/PhD or equivalent.
  • Board certified or board eligible in Pediatrics and/or a pediatric subspecialty.
  • License or eligible for licensure in the State of Iowa.
  • Must meet federal grant requirements to be funded on the Department’s Clinical Scientist Institutional Career Development Program Award awarded through the NIH. See NIH link for more information: https://researchtraining.nih.gov/programs/career-development/K12.

Desirable qualifications:

  • Teaching competence in pediatrics for medical students and residents.
  • Strong oral and written communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Demonstrated ability to receive and/or have current federal funding or equivalent external funding.
  • Evidence of a track record in productivity of scientific publications and peer-reviewed external funding.
  • Strong oral and written communication and interpersonal skills.

The University of Iowa Carver College of Medicine is one of the top biomedical research institutions in the nation and ranked 42nd overall and 19th among public medical schools for NIH funding in FY18. The U.S. News and World Report research ranking places the College 15th among public institutions for 2018, and the Stead Family Department of Pediatrics ranked 24th overall and 12th in NIH funding among all public pediatric departments nationwide in FY18. The ACGME-accredited pediatric residency program at the Children’s Hospital trains 47 pediatric residents.

The Stead Family Department of Pediatrics comprises the medical and research staff of University of Iowa Stead Family Children’s Hospital, one of the nation’s top-ranked pediatric care and research institutions. It is the only university-affiliated hospital in Iowa devoted solely to the care of infants, children, adolescents and young adults, and is Iowa’s only accredited Level 1 Regional Resource Pediatric Trauma Center. In 2019-2020 University of Iowa Stead Family Children’s Hospital ranked in six pediatric specialties in the Best Children’s Hospitals U.S. News and World Report, including cancer, neonatology, nephrology, and orthopedics, and is the only hospital in Iowa to be nationally ranked by U.S. News and World Report for children’s care. A new 190-bed children’s hospital opened in February 2017.
