The Kirk Kerkorian School of Medicine at UNLV (KSOM UNLV) Department of Pediatrics is seeking qualified candidates for the position of Chief Resident for the academic year July 2023-June 2024. This is an exciting opportunity to be an integral part of our dynamic pediatric training program and to be a junior faculty member in the department. There are currently 30 pediatrics residents in our program.

Candidates should have a strong academic record as well as exceptional interpersonal, clinical and leadership skills. They must have a commitment to teaching and a sincere desire to be a chief resident. Candidates must have completed a three-year residency in pediatrics by the start date – July 1, 2023.

In collaboration with one other chief resident, duties will consist of mentoring pediatrics residents and medical students, coordinating educational activities for the pediatrics residents, organizing and tracking the educational curriculum, developing curricula and board review sessions, and supervising pediatric residents in simulation and ambulatory care. The chief residents are key members of the program leadership team. Further, as a junior faculty member, the chief serves an important role in departmental administrative meetings including the program evaluation committee and other education/hospital-based committees. You will be provided the opportunity to maintain and further refine clinical skills as a part-time attending (up to 0.4 FTE) in our outpatient clinic, newborn services, and/or the skilled nursing facility depending on your professional and career goals. It is also anticipated that the chief resident will have the opportunity to pursue scholarship and/or research if desired.

Requirements for position include:

  • Must be a current pediatric resident in good standing with an ACGME-accredited training program
  • Must graduate in June of 2023 from an ACGME accredited residency training program and be prepared to start July 1, 2023
  • Must be American Board of Pediatrics eligible in 2023
  • Must be a US citizen
