In partnership with West Virginia University (WVU) – Charleston Division and Charleston Area Medical Center (CAMC), the Department of Pediatrics is seeking a dedicated clinician-educator to serve as an Associate Program Director for our Pediatric Residency Program.  CAMC is the largest hospital in southern West Virginia and serves a large area of the state and region. WVU –Charleston Division is one of the oldest regional campuses in the country and we support a large number of medical students for their clinical training.

Position Highlights

  • Help lead our Pediatric Residency Program which consists of 21 residents (7/year)
  • Charleston Area Medical Center is a 958-bed academic medical center and is one of the state’s top health care providers, with four hospitals and over 700 physicians on staff, as well as a workforce of over 8,000 employees
  • Faculty appointment with West Virginia University School of Medicine, where you will have the support you need to innovate and develop your career as an educator and leader within the organization and beyond
  • Free-standing children’s hospital with state-of-the-art technology, pediatric-focused ancillary services, and a full range of pediatric subspecialty support

Position Requirements

  • A minimum of three years of active faculty teaching experience in an ACGME-accredited pediatric residency
  • Passion for teaching and leadership, with a commitment to teaching of students and residents, and promoting the ideal clinical learning environment
  • A progressive record of exceptional patient care in an academic, teaching hospital and/or community setting, with a strong commitment to providing outstanding clinical care for a diverse population
  • Preference given to candidates with history of leadership roles in education of medical students, residents/fellows
  • Board Certification in Pediatrics
  • Eligibility for a West Virginia Medical License

  • Outpatient Subspecialty Clinic and General Pediatrics Practices on campus

Under the auspices of the CAMC Institute for Academic Medicine, CAMC is a growing academic medical center sponsoring 14 accredited medical residencies and fellowship programs; 3 pharmacy residency programs; a doctoral clinical psychology internship and a doctoral level School of Nurse Anesthesia.  Our strategic plan includes expansion of GME programs in a number of disciplines over the next five years as well as a growing portfolio of research programs and initiatives.  CAMC is home to two regional medical school campuses hosting 160 full-time 3rd and 4th year medical students on site and serves as clinical training site for over 1500 health sciences students.  A new Center for Learning and Research is under construction that will house a 14,000 square-foot simulation center and other facilities dedicated to our education and research programs.  With over 350 active research protocols and clinical trials, the CAMC research program is accredited by the Association for the Accreditation of Human Research Protection Programs (AAHRP), which recognizes institutional “commitment and scientifically and ethically sound research and to continuous improvement.”
