APPD Program Director School (APPD PDS)


The APPD is implementing and forming the highly requested APPD Program Director School (APPD PDS), envisioned as a nationally recognized program that provides a unique opportunity for pediatric academic leaders who have been in their role as program director for less than five years, those considering becoming a program director, or those wishing for a refresher, to engage and learn from seasoned program directors, pediatric educators, and other national leaders in pediatrics.

The inaugural Council, those individuals who will be responsible for developing and delivering curriculum to the APPD PDS, has been selected and includes the following APPD members:

APPD Response to Proposed Pediatric RC Requirements


The official response from the APPD to the draft Pediatric Program Requirements was submitted to the ACGME Review Committee for Pediatrics on August 31st.

The APPD sought member input in the preparation of this response by providing an avenue for discussion and networking through member conference calls in late July and early August.

APPD Program Director School (APPD PDS)

The APPD is implementing and forming the highly requested APPD Program Director School (PDS) and has solicited candidates to serve on the Council of the APPD PDS. The deadline for applications was September 30, 2011.

Council members will be responsible for developing and delivering curriculum for the APPD PDS. We are anticipating that the Council will be formed by the end of this calendar year and will begin with an orientation session and inaugural meeting of the Council just prior to or after the APPD Annual Spring Meeting in San Antonio, TX (March 28-31, 2012). This information sheet includes the criteria and process for selection of PDS Council members.

ABP Releases Primer for Program Directors

The American Board of Pediatrics has released a new resource, Assessment in Graduate Medical Education: A Primer for Pediatric Program Directors."

This resource represents a collaborative effort between the Program Directors Committee of the ABP and the APPD and will serve as a practical guide to advance the assessment of competence of trainees.

The draft Pediatric Program Requirements have been posted on the ACGME website for review and comment. The deadline for comments is August 31st.
