2009 Clinical Bioethics Fellowship Application Announcement


The Treuman Katz Center for Pediatric Bioethics at Children’s Hospital and Regional Medical Center and the Division of Bioethics, Department of Pediatrics at the University of Washington in Seattle is accepting clinical bioethics fellowship applications for fellowships beginning July 2009.

The Clinical Bioethics Fellowship is a two-year program (with an option for an additional year) that trains clinicians in bioethics with an emphasis on pediatric issues in the clinical and research arenas. The goal of the fellowship is to prepare clinicians for academic careers with an emphasis on scholarship in pediatric bioethics.

Candidates must plan to engage in pediatric clinical care and/or research. This requirement can include residency or subspecialty training in areas such as anesthesia, pediatrics, physiatry, psychiatry, radiology and surgery. The program includes scholarly (a research project), clinical (in-patient or outpatient direct patient care), educational (lectures and seminars), teaching (presentations and case-based discussions), and clinical ethics activities (bioethics consultations). Pediatrics - Craniofacial Medicine - Fellowship


The Department of Pediatrics, Division of Craniofacial Medicine at the University of Washington and Seattle Children’s Hospital is accepting applications for subspecialty clinical and research training in craniofacial medicine.

Drawing on the clinical and research expertise of our group and the broader university community, we will offer a variety of training opportunities ranging from one year clinical fellowships to three year fellowships with training in molecular biology, developmental biology, epidemiology, bioethics, clinical and outcomes research, molecular genetics, and public health sciences, among other disciplines. The goal of our fellowship program is to train pediatric providers to become members of cleft and craniofacial teams while providing the scientific training necessary to become successful independent investigators for those who want to pursue academic careers.

The Craniofacial Medicine Fellowship is the first training program of its kind offered to pediatric residents. Fellows will have the opportunity to learn skills at one of the largest Craniofacial Centers in the United States with 39 team members. The craniofacial fellow will be responsible for the diagnosis and management of the craniofacial patient in coordination with surgeons, other craniofacial team members, and the primary care provider.

Connecticut Children's Medical Center
(a partner site of the University of Connecticut Health Center) located in Hartford, Connecticut is seeking a Pediatric Emergency Medicine Fellow to start in July, 2009.

The program began in 2000 with a goal of providing a broad clinical background, teaching and administrative experience to general EM physicians. However, the program has expanded to provide two distinct tracks, training those with either primary residency background in Pediatrics, or Emergency Medicine, for careers in academic or clinical Pediatric Emergency Medicine.

The CCMC PEM Fellowship Program participates in both the ERAS application service and the NRMP subspecialty match. Unexpected opening for a PGY 4 position in the Neonatal – Perinatal Medicine Program. July 1, 2008.

The Neonatal Intensive Care Unit (NICU) is a modern 54-plus bed unit. The NICU is one of only three referral centers in the entire northeastern portion of Illinois from northern Chicago and southern Wisconsin.

The NICU is staffed by 7 full-time neonatologists, 6 Neonatal-Perinatal Medicine fellows, 4 pediatric residents, and specially trained nurses. Senior medical students are accepted for elective rotations in the NICU. The neonatal staff is supported by all the necessary pediatric sub-specialties. Around-the-clock coverage is provided by pediatric surgeons, neurosurgeons, cardiovascular surgeons, and other surgical sub-specialists. Pediatric and obstetric anesthesiologists provide support as necessary. Other ancillary support, including a nearby satellite laboratory, respiratory therapy and radiology services, are available 24 hours a day. The unit is specifically designed for the care of sick neonates, and is fully equipped to provide any necessary mode of monitoring and therapy. Any sick infant younger than 28 days of age is eligible for admission to the NICU.

The ALGCH Neonatal-Perinatal Medicine Fellowship Program has been approved by the Accreditation Council for Graduate Medical Education (ACGME). It provides each fellow trainee with 3 years of comprehensive ACGME-approved educational, clinical and research experience. Opportunities exist for customization of the trainee’s experience, based on individual interests and career goals. Throughout the fellowship experience, each trainee is supported in his or her work toward initiating and completing a research project.

Child Abuse Pediatrics Fellowship, Westchester Institute for Human Development, New York Medical College Department of Pediatrics, Maria Fareri Children’s Hospital at Westchester Medical Center
. The overall objective of the child abuse and forensic pediatrics fellowship program at Westchester Institute for Human Development/New York Medical College is to produce an academic pediatrician proficient in the field of child abuse and neglect and forensic pediatrics. The trained forensic pediatrician will be proficient in the clinical, research, prevention and teaching aspects of physical abuse, sexual abuse, neglect, psychological abuse and neglect.

The fellowship program will function collaboratively with the primary clinical site being the Children’s Advocacy Center at the Westchester Institute for Human Development; and the inpatient clinical site being the Maria Fareri Children’s Hospital at Westchester Medical Center. The fellow will engage in a variety of off-site training experiences with the full array of allied professional activities related to child abuse, including: mental health assessment and therapy; child protection services; child fatality review; forensic autopsy; criminal and civil prosecution of child abuse, and legislative advocacy as well as the variety of medical sub-specialists through the Maria Fareri Children’s Hospital.
The parent program for the fellowship is the Westchester Medical Center/New York Medical College Pediatrics Residency Program. The program has been approved through the Westchester Medical Center GME committee and is following all standards on the road for ACGME accreditation, expected in 2010 for programs nationwide.

The fellow will be given an opportunity to complete all requirements for the Masters Degree in Public Health at the New York Medical College School of Public Health during the fellowship.

Children's Specialized Hospital in New Jersey has two positions for Developmental and Behavioral Pediatricians. These are new positions created due to our rapid expansion and great clinical need at our organization.

Children's Specialized Hospital is New Jersey's largest provider of both inpatient and outpatient services to children with developmental disabilities. We have recently completed the construction of a state of the art inpatient rehabilitation hospital on the campus of Robert Wood Johnson University Hospital in New Brunswick and are about to renovate our main outpatient site in Mountainside, New Jersey. We have 8 Developmental Behavioral Pediatricians on our staff with 5 Nurse Practitioners to assist in care. We also have 3 Pediatric Psychiatrists, 1 Pediatric Neurologist and 4 Pediatric Physiatrists on our staff providing a broad and complimentary range of specialists to treat our patients. Additionally, we have a large and talented complement of psychologists as well as physical, occupational and speech therapists on staff. This past year we had over 8,000 outpatient medical visits and an equal number of visits for therapy services. We serve a large population of children with special needs such as Autistic Spectrum Disorder, Attention Deficit/Hyperactivity Disorder and Cerebral Palsy.

Child and Adolescent Health promotion Fellowship, Dayton Children’s Medical Center, Wright State University Boonshoft School of Medicine.
Purpose: to provide additional training to address the challenges posed by the childhood and adolescent obesity epidemic, including the need for community-based prevention and intervention, diagnosing and treating the co-morbidities of obesity, understanding the use of advanced anthropometrics, as well as the myriad of cultural, behavioral, economic and societal factors which contribute to obesity. The fellowship would provide relevant clinical experiences such as obesity clinic, type 2-diabetes clinic, sleep disorders center, cardiology, neurology, orthopedics, psychology and adolescent medicine. Training and research at the Wright State Univ. Dept. of Community Health’s Lifespan Health Research Center is expected. 2008 Pediatric Gastroenterology and Nutrition Fellowship Announcement

The University of Washington Program for Pediatric Gastroenterology and Nutrition at Children’s Hospital and Regional Medical Center in Seattle is accepting pediatric gastroenterology fellowship applications for fellowships to begin in July of 2008 or 2009. The Pediatric Gastroenterology and Nutrition Fellowship is a three-year program. In the first year, the fellow will have intensive exposure to inpatient and outpatient gastroenterology, hepatology, and nutrition, develop skills in relevant procedures, and be exposed to both liver and bowel transplantation and adult gastroenterology. In years two and three, aside from weekly clinics, fellows will focus on an academic research pursuit. They will be expected to complete relevant course work and academic requirements for training and prepare a research project from start to finish. They will obtain the fundamental skills in the second two years to be an independent academic pediatric gastroenterologist with an active research program.
