Grants / Special Projects
The APPD is committed to investment in members through grants and special projects.
The Special Projects Program provides financial support for projects that further the APPD’s mission, strategic plan, and our task force charges. Through the process described below, the APPD may grant up to $10,000 per selected project. The Board of Directors will determine the funds available for this program annually. The number of awards will be dependent on the funds available and the size of the grant requests of the selected projects. Watch the APPD Bulletin, Newsletter and website for Requests for Proposals and deadlines. Click here for more information .
For 2011, the APPD has approved funding for three very important projects. They are:
-
A New Era of Patient Care and Resident Education: Transforming Night Coverage from a Service to Educational Model
Modeling and Measuring Resident-to-Resident Patient Hand-off Using IPASS in the Simulation Suite
Unsettling Situations in the Pediatric Intensive Care Unit: A Curriculum for Improving Resident Confidence and Competence When Negotiating Emotionally Challenging Encounters

The Walter W. Tunnessen, Jr, MD Consultation Grants Program was developed to assist Pediatric Program Directors in assessing and developing their residency programs. Each award provides an honorarium for a 3-day expert consultation. Selected programs may suggest a consultant who is qualified to review curriculum development, implementation of Resident Review Committee (RRC) requirements, preparation for an RRC accreditation visit, and the overall residency program. To be eligible, the consultant should be a member of the APPD. Click here for more information .
