NAME Association of Pediatric Program Directors Coordinators Section PURPOSE The Association of Pediatric Program Directors Coordinators’ Section is dedicated to promoting and enhancing graduate medical education in the specialty of pediatrics. The Coordinators’ Section of APPD is established as an educational resource to foster the exchange of ideas and information for persons in the position of pediatric program coordinator. GOALS AND OBJECTIVES Enhance graduate medical education within each program and promote communication among coordinators, program directors, and the APPD membership. MEMBERSHIP The membership structure of APPD includes the Coordinator of each accredited residency program that is a dues paying member. Membership within the APPD is by Program, and the annual fee includes the Program Director, Department Chair, Associate Program Director, Chief Residents and Program Coordinator. Others within the program may join APPD for an additional charge. FINANCES The Coordinators Section may put forth a request for monetary resources each fall for the following year. A written request will include a description of the activity contemplated and any funds needed to help implement the project. This request will be submitted to either chair of the Coordinators Executive Committee for presentation at the Fall Board Meeting. The Coordinators Section shall not seek independent funding from outside sources without prior consent of the APPD Board and Executive Director. EXECUTIVE COMMITTEE OF COORDINATORS SECTION Purpose: To provide leadership and guidance for the Coordinators’ Section, to plan projects and programs to enhance the Coordinators Section and APPD. The Executive Committee will report to the APPD Board. STRUCTURE Six elected members will comprise the Executive Committee of the Coordinators’ Section. These representatives will be elected by the Coordinators Section membership. A Coordinator must be nominated by a member of the APPD during the Fall call for nominations. Coordinator members of the APPD, will vote for two representatives each year. The elected coordinators will serve for a period of three years. If for any reason a committee member cannot fulfill the elected term, a special election will take place. The committee person vacating their position will notify the Chairpersons of the Executive Committee, who in turn will notify the Executive Director and Board Representative that a vacancy will occur. Nomination for replacement will be submitted to the Executive Committee. An electronic ballot will be sent to all members of the Coordinators Section for vote. The turn around time for an off cycle election will be four weeks. Duties and Responsibilities of the Coordinators’ Executive Committee Members:
COMMITTEES Rationale:The purpose of each committee is to enhance the overall value of membership in APPD. Committees are an opportunity for member involvement, provide opportunities to identify and serve the overall purposes of the section and APPD. Overview of Guidelines and Structure The APPD President, Executive Director and Board Advisor shall be ex-officio members of all sections and committees, without vote, unless either or both are designated members of that section or committee. The Board of the APPD shall receive semi-annual reports on the activities of each committee. The committee chairperson, which is selected by the Executive Committee, will report to the Coordinators Executive Committee at the semi annual meetings of the APPD or to the Executive Committee Chairpersons if for any reason they are unable to attend semi annual meetings. The committee chairperson will also have the option of asking a member of their committee to report in their absence. The Coordinators Executive Committee will develop and recommend Committees, their responsibilities, subject to APPD Board approval. The Executive Committee will be responsible for selecting each committee chair. Committees within the Coordinators Section will be considered ad-hoc and will be established to deal with a specific task or issue. The committee may disband once its work is completed. The life of an ad-hoc committee can range from several days to several years depending on the nature of the issue or project with which it is dealing. An example of an ad-hoc committee is the Handbook Committee.
Professional Development Series Committee Develop self study pediatric residency informational modules. Each module will provide an overview of a certain aspect of the pediatric residency program. The purpose is to build and enhance knowledge about pediatric residency programs. Program Coordinators will receive recognition for the completion of a series of Modules. Research Committee Contact other specialty residency programs in your area to gather the following information:
Program Coordinators as Supervisors Committee Create a forum where Program Coordinators as supervisors can meet yearly to discuss and share their experiences. Also, open to Program Coordinators who are not supervisors, but are interested in learning about supervision. Technology Committee Gather information on technology programs used in other Pediatric Residency Programs in order to:
