About The APPD
A Brief History of APPD
Membership information:
Active participation (for accredited pediatric residency programs) in the Association
of Pediatric Program Directors (APPD) is one of the best investments you can
make with your limited time. APPD is a network of colleagues, all of whom are
facing daily the same issues you are. One of the unique advantages of APPD is
the opportunity to do with others what you cannot do by yourself as a program
director, department chair, associate director, or coordinator. The camaraderie
and esprit de corps among pediatric program directors, department chairs, associate
directors, and coordinators is a tremendous bonding influence and a source of
welcomed support as the issues of the day are faced.
The APPD membership dues year is from July 1-June 30. Annual dues are
$1400 per accredited pediatric program, which includes the program director,
one associate program director, the department chair, one pediatric residency
program coordinator and all chief residents. We also invite individuals
from programs such as Pediatric Emergency Medicine, Medicine Pediatrics,
Pediatric Child Psychiatry, Pediatric Rehabilitation Medicine, Pediatric
Genetics, Subspecialty Training Fellowship Directors, etc. There is a
$100 charge for each additional individual or programs may pay $2500
for an unlimited number of individuals.
Meetings information:
The Fall Program, implemented in 1997, is held on an annual basis.
This meeting is primarily for new program directors and program
directors preparing for
an RRC visit and for those wishing to bring program coordinators. The two
day program is a cornucopia of important tidbits of information
that, when combined
with your enthusiasm and commitment to running one of the best training
programs, will assure your success as a director. It will also provide
tremendous insight
into the RRC visit so, even if you're not up this year, you can know how
to begin preparing now for a favorable future experience. Remember
to old adage: "Prior preparation prevents poor performance!" Well, at APPD we like to say "prior preparation promotes perfection" for
your training program!
The other "must" performance is the Annual Meeting which is held two to
three days prior to the start of the Pediatric Academic Societies meeting
in the
spring.
