Expectations of Regional Chairs –
Each Region will have at least one activity in addition to the Spring breakfast.
The regional chairs will be responsible for regular(quarterly?) communications with the communications board member either through the newsletter or a regional section on the website.
Summary of the regional breakfast meetings should be submitted electronically to Laura Degnon and cc’d to Rob McGregor with in the next few weeks.
Finalize regional elections if not already completed at the morning breakfast. Relay leaders’ names to Rob McG and Laura Degnon.
Challenges –
Creation of regional listserves
Creation of regional financial resources - ? regional tax, ?regional allocation from national dues.
Travel scholarships for geographically dispersed regions – especially for coordinators and chief residents
Gain local administrative buy-in for coordinator’s need for regional collaboration.
Opportunities –
Regional meetings can combine with other regionalized activities of related organizations, i.e. Texas Pediatric Society Meeting
Creation of sub-regions to facilitate meeting so long as regional chair kept in the loop.
Council of Regional Chairs can meet via phone periodically especially prior to national meeting to pre-plan shared activities.
Develop academically recognized positions to facilitate activities – ex. “regional Meeting Planner”.
Develop Academic recognition strategies for promotions committees, chairs, etc.
Develop regional collaborative projects for chief residents.
Link with medical school student rotation directors to facilitate regional student rotations
Provide networking for resident rotations within the regions.
Link Medical school advisor to regional meetings – PR for programs and needs assessments of student programs
Facilitate regional coordinators needs assessment for project planning, mentoring, shared ideas and program functioning.
These ideas will be transmitted to the APPD Board for further discussion.
